Local Authority Fitness & Health Centre DEC
The DEC illustrated below was produced following a site audit of the building located in Burnham, Somerset. It is a modern, purpose built centre within a school campus having completely separate utilities and metering.
The building has double glazed windows and a reasonably efficient wet heating system. The heating system would benefit from having a completely optimised and compensated control system.
The rating of ‘E’ reflects a number of issues apparent in the building. These are:
If floodlight use were to be identified, it could be discounted from the annual energy use, improving the rating. In fact, work is in hand to renew lighting throughout the building using HF technology and both presence and day-lighting controls.
Public sector owned buildings frequently visited by the general public that are in excess of 1000 square metres require a Display Energy Certificate (DEC) to be displayed within the public areas of those buildings. This building was 1142 square metres and so qualified in order to be compliant with the legislation.
The report highlighted the fact that the air conditioning found on site was likely to be in excess of 12kW and would require a separate air conditioning report to be in place before January 2011.
