Hutchison Ports (UK), Felixstowe - Carbon ManagementHutchison Ports (UK) (HPUK) operate the Port of Felixstowe, the largest container port in the UK, in addition to Harwich International Port and Thamesport. Owned by Hutchison Port Holdings, HPUK engaged Donald Lack to assist it in embedding Carbon Management within its corporate strategy and to identify opportunities for reducing its carbon emissions.
Initially, Donald Lack completed a Scoping Study to identify initiatives to manage and reduce HPUK’s carbon footprint, including changes to procurement arrangements, enhancements to their Environmental Management System and improvements to dockside operations and their building’s fabric and services for energy efficiency.
Following discussions with HPUK and the prioritisation of these initiatives, Donald Lack developed 14 full business cases for the implementation of key opportunities.
In line with Donald Lack’s recommendations, HPUK has decided to initially progress with an automated Monitoring and Targeting (aM&T) system for their energy and water use. Such a system will allow HPUK to identify future initiatives through the establishment of a series of proper use baselines, as well as enabling accurate reporting and verification of future carbon mitigation measures. Donald Lack is currently developing full specifications for these monitoring systems.
We are committed to continuing to work in partnership with HPUK to capture the significant opportunities and reduce the risks associated with climate change.
